National Parks, Parkways, Preserves, Memorials and Monuments

During this trip, we visited 37 sites administered by the National Park Service. Many of them are free, but the big ones charge entrance fees of ten or twenty dollars. If you like visiting national parks, you should take advantage of the National Parks Pass, which lets you into any national park for one full year for a one-time cost of $50 [note: in 2002 dollars; price was $80 as of 2010], which saved us about $150, give or take.
